New Transit introduces innovative diesel mild hybrid (mHEV) technology as an option for manual transmission models. The system uses an integrated starter/generator to recover energy while the vehicle is coasting and stores it in a 48-volt lithium-ion battery. The stored energy is then used to support the engine during normal driving and acceleration, as well as powering the vehicle's electrical ancillaries. The system further helps to improve fuel efficiency, particularly in stop-start urban driving. (Option on FWD/RWD models with manual transmission)
The latest Transit variant, the Transit 5-Tonne is a commercial vehicle that is built to move all kinds of cargo. The Transit provides impressive loadspace in all three dimensions: load length, width (from wheel arch to wheel arch) and usable interior height. With 15.1 cubic metres of loadspace, you can fit cargo over 3 metres long. With a carrying capacity of up to 2.1 tonnes, you’ll never be short of space or ability to transport almost anything. Three front passenger seats plus a spacious second row of seating, allows for up to 7 occupants. A fully glazed sliding side door provides unrestricted access for rear passengers. And a fixed bulkhead comfortably separates second row seating from the large crew van’s rear load space.
