Violating this law can result in three penalty points on your licence and a £2,500 fine per faulty tyre. To ensure compliance, perform a simple test with a 20p coin. If the outer band of the coin is visible when placed in the tread groove, it's time for new tyres. Check at three different spots to ensure even tread wear.
